Traditional saunas are typically heated to 180-220°F.  This provides a good environment to unwind and ease muscles, but the sauna is heating the room you are sitting in and not your body directly. Also, many people find they can’t tolerate that heat for long.

In contrast, an infrared sauna operates at a lower, more comfortable temperature range of 90 – 165 F and heats your body directly, raising your core body temperature as your body absorbs the infrared heat. There is plenty of research to back up the claims made by experts. In one two-week study of twenty-five obese adults, body weight and body fat were reduced after daily infrared sauna treatments of 15 minutes.(i) In another study, researchers at Binghamton University studied the effects of infrared sauna use on body fat. The study showed that if you raise your core temperature to 100 degrees (or 37.8 C), your body produces enough growth hormone that you burn fat at a prodigious rate (ii)
